The moment before the yes

The nerves, the surprise, the yes — captured as they truly happen.

Let Lisbon keep the secret

From quiet Alfama corners to open viewpoints above the Tagus, we’ll choose a setting that feels right for the two of you. I’ll help you plan the route, timing and little details so everything feels natural.

Discreet by design

I’ll be there before you arrive, blending into the surroundings and waiting for the right moment. No staged performance — just the nervous anticipation, the question and the reaction exactly as they happen.

The yes, and everything after

Once the secret is out, take a breath, enjoy the moment and celebrate together. We’ll make a few relaxed portraits afterward, with Lisbon’s light, rooftops and river as your backdrop.

“Nelson was a phenomenal photographer for my surprise engagement photoshoot in Lisbon. For about two months prior to my trip, Nelson was working with me to create the best plan given the locations I was considering. He helped me understand the lighting, foot traffic, and all the little details I wouldn’t know about since I’m not from Lisbon!”

Surprise Proposal FAQs

How does a surprise proposal photoshoot work?

We’ll agree on the location, timing and a simple plan before the day. I’ll arrive early and stay discreet while you enjoy the moment naturally. After the proposal, we’ll take a few relaxed portraits together.

Can you help me choose the best location and time?

Yes — I’ll help you choose a location that feels right for both of you. I’ll recommend places based on the atmosphere you want, the light, crowds, access and your plans for the day. We can choose anything from a quiet Alfama corner to an open viewpoint overlooking Lisbon and the Tagus.

What is the best time of day for a surprise proposal in Lisbon?

Early morning, ideally between 7:00 and 9:00, is usually the best time for a surprise proposal in Lisbon. The light is softer and the city’s streets and viewpoints are much less crowded, which gives us more privacy and makes it easier to protect the surprise. If an early morning proposal is not possible, I’ll recommend the best alternative based on your date, chosen location and the available light.

Will my partner notice the photographer before the proposal?

There are several ways to protect the surprise, and we’ll choose the strategy that feels most natural for you. I can remain completely discreet and photograph from a distance. I can also act like a tourist: you ask me to take a photograph with your phone, and I suggest taking it with my camera instead and sending it to you afterward by AirDrop. Another option is for your partner to know that you have booked a photoshoot without knowing that a proposal will happen. All three strategies work, although this last option generally produces the best overall photographs because your partner arrives prepared and relaxed in front of the camera — they just must not suspect the proposal!

Do I need to give you a signal before I propose?

No signal is normally needed. We’ll agree on the exact location, route, approximate time and strategy beforehand. I’ll be in position, watching your arrival and ready for the moment, so you can focus entirely on your partner. If we use the tourist or phone-photo strategy, that interaction will naturally become part of the plan without alerting them.

How much does a proposal photoshoot cost?

Proposal sessions start at €150 for 30 minutes. A 30-minute session is possible for the proposal and a short set of portraits, but I recommend booking at least one hour. This gives us more flexibility for the timing, the proposal itself, the celebration and relaxed portraits afterward without feeling rushed.

How many edited photographs are included?

The number of edited photographs depends on the package you choose. The 30-minute session includes 20 edited photographs, the 1-hour session includes 50, and the 2-hour session includes 80. After the photoshoot, you’ll choose your favourites from all the photographs captured during the session.

Additional photographs are also available, either edited or unedited. You may purchase extra professionally edited photographs or request the complete gallery of unedited, high-resolution photographs without watermarks. The additional cost is provided upon request.

What happens immediately after they say yes?

Take a moment to celebrate — there is no need to look at the camera straight away. Once you are ready, I’ll introduce myself and guide you through a relaxed portrait session nearby.

What if it rains or our plans change?

We’ll monitor the forecast and agree on the best available option. When possible, we can adjust the time, use a more sheltered location or follow a backup plan. If you are delayed, contact me on WhatsApp as soon as possible so I can adapt the plan.

When will we receive the photographs?

After the session, you’ll be able to choose your favourite photographs from all the images I captured. Once you have completed your selection, simply send me a message. Your chosen photographs will then be professionally edited and delivered in high resolution within a maximum of 48 hours. Express delivery on the same day may also be available for an additional fee.

How do I reserve the date without spoiling the surprise?

Start by contacting me privately on WhatsApp or Instagram — whichever is more convenient for you. Once we confirm my availability, the date, location and proposal plan, you can choose the most suitable package and complete the booking without your partner receiving any information about the surprise.
